SyslogView
SyslogView is the client
provided to be used with the SyslogServer. The client attaches to
the server with an ODBC connection, meaning that the client can be
run on any workstation or server on the network. Furthermore,
several clients can attach to the same SyslogServer simultaneously.
The SyslogView client
provides a color toned view of the log entries in the database,
allowing for better overview. The displayed entries can be
automatically updated, creating a "live" view of the
network. |

Quickfilters are an
efficient way to instantly adjust current presentation of the logs.
Filters for Facility, Severity, Host, Process and Time can be used,
as well as free text filters. Several filters can be combined
together. As a result, very specific filters can quickly be
configured.

Filters can also be saved
and combined with other filters, providing even greater use. A
filter could for instance be used to filter out a specific type of
syslog message from a (noisy) server. The filter can be left active
by default - resulting in much improved readability of interesting
log entries. Filters can be complemended with user SQL syntax for
the advanced users.
Alarm rules are configured
and inspected from SyslogView. Alarms can be defined to alert the
administrator by a pop-up or email when an interesting event
occurs on the network. The alarm process is handled by the server,
meaning that the client does not have to be active in order for the
alarms to work. | |
